The Smart BioEd Lab is a research and teaching laboratory located in the Faculty of Education in Science and Technology, equipped for contemporary biological investigation and hands-on experimentation by learners and educators. As a research site, the lab examines how biological knowledge, practices, and norms are mediated in real-world educational contexts.
The lab brings together experimental biological work and educational research. It hosts biology investigations that employ current laboratory instruments and methods, while also providing opportunities for learners and educators to participate in ongoing scientific studies. Projects such as the Citizen Science Sleep Project illustrate how participants engage directly in authentic scientific work conducted in the lab.
Research conducted in the lab examines how students, teachers, and community participants interact with biology as a scientific discipline, including how they reason, curate knowledge, make decisions, and develop professional practices across formal, informal, and hybrid contexts.
Principal Investigator: Prof. Dina Tsybulsky
